Updated 7/31/2023
Friday Health Plan is no longer enrolling individuals and families into their Affordable Care Act (ACA) health plans. States have taken steps to protect the health coverage of their residents who are enrolled in Friday Health Plans, which covers more than 300,000 individuals and families in:
- Colorado
- Georgia
- Nevada
- North Carolina
- Oklahoma
What should l do if I am currently enrolled in a Friday Health Plan?
Each state has provided information to consumers on what to do, which is covered below. Information about applying for an ACA SEP due to loss of health coverage are provided after the state-specific instructions.
Colorado
If you live in Colorado, the Division of Insurance is closely watching the situation. At the time this blog was published, the Division instructed Friday Health Plan (FHP-CO) members:
-
- To continue to pay the monthly premium and access care according to plan rules through the end of the year. In other words, nothing changes.
- Pick a new plan from a different company for your 2024 health coverage during the standard Open Enrollment period, which begins November 1, 2023.
If FHP-CO cannot make it until the end of the year, the Colorado Life and Health Protection Association would step in to help members cover medical costs up to $500,000 each. Watch your email or mail for updates, or visit the Division’s website for consumer advisories.

Residents of Georgia who purchased Friday Health Plans (FHP-GA) must choose a health plan from another insurer in your coverage area by July 31 to avoid a gap in coverage. You will still have coverage through your FHP-GA plan through July.

How to Apply for a New Health Plan During the ACA SEP
You can work with navigators, independent, licensed insurance agents, or captive agents at specific health insurers to enroll in a new plan.
- Navigators can help you find a plan, but cannot recommend a plan that fits your unique needs or help you with questions or issues after you are enrolled.
- Captive agents work for one insurance company, so they only sell plans from that insurer.
- Independent agents work with several insurers, so they can compare many plans offered by different insurers in your area. Independent agents will also be available to answer your insurance-related questions all year long.
Proof of Coverage Loss
Regardless of how you enroll, you will need to provide proof that you lost coverage. Click here to see what documents you can submit as proof. But not all agents are the same.
